The Bearded Collie was very close to extinction as a working dog in the early part of the twentieth century when its fortunes were revived in 1944 by Mrs Willison who owned Jeannie and later acquired Bailie. Virtually all of today's Bearded Collies descend from these two dogs.
The breed is considered high maintenance with regard its physical coat and physical and mental stimulation - thus making it a great dog for early retired couples.
