This plant is sometimes called a king-cup because of its association with Louis IX of France and it has been in and out if favour with gardeners ever since his reign. As the name suggests, Ranunculus Asiaticus has its roots in Asia; it was brought over to northern Europe from Turkey during the middle ages.
