Jack Vettriano 2012 Calendar. Jack Vettriano was born Jack Hoggan in Scotland. Jack Vettriano grew up in the industrial seaside town of Methil, Fife. Jack took up painting as a hobby in his twenties. His earliest paintings were created under the name "Jack Hoggan" and these were copies of impressionist paintings. Jack's breakthrough year was 1988, when he submitted two canvases for the Royal Scottish Academy annual show. Both paintings sold on the first day and Vettriano was approached by several galleries who wanted to sell his other work.
