Lhasa Apso 16 Month 2012 Calendar. The Tibetans bred dogs for temperament, not for looks. The Lhasa Apso was used as an indoor sentinel: it would bark aggressively at unfamiliar sounds or sights - its bark is the basis for its Tibetan name - "Hairy Barking Dog".
This breed caused confusion when it was first introduced into the West, as it was initially grouped into one category with the Tibetan Terrier and Shih Tzu. It was only in 1934 when each of these dogs was finally recognised as a separate breed.
